聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 An exciting new win was recorded for the Canora Novice Black Cobras, who won a tournament championship for the first time in years.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Canora Novice Black Cobras were named champions at the Wadena novice tournament held on January 7 by beating three teams in round robin play.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The first game was against the Humboldt Broncos, which the Cobras won 5-2, followed by a game against the Wadena Panthers, which was won by the novice black team 2-0. All seven goals were scored by Chase Hembling, who was named Most Valuable Player for the Humboldt game. Katherine Hauber was honoured with the Hustler Award for that game.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 For the Wadena game, goalie Linden Roebuck was both named Most Valuable Player and honoured with the Hustler Award due to his shut-out performance, said coach Jeff Sznerch.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 In the A final, the Canora Novice Black Cobras defeated the Kelvington Wheat Kings with a score of 5-3. Hembling scored three goals for the game and Kayden Harder and Wyatt Wolkowski both scored one each to clinch the title. Wolkowski was awarded on his performance with the Hustler Award and Most Valuable Player title.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淚n all the years we鈥檝e coached this group we鈥檝e never managed to win a tournament championship so this win is really special for the team,鈥 said Sznerch, who said the win reinforces the hard work and effort all the players have put into the season and the pride of the coaches.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淚 know this taste of success will act as a motivator for the remainder of the season.鈥
