Canora IP hockey team attends Preeceville tournament

Members of the Canora initiation program (IP) hockey team attended an exciting single-day tournament in Preeceville.

The Canora IP team was one of the eight teams that participated in the Preeceville Pats IP hockey tournament on January 7. It played against teams from Preeceville, Yorkton and Kamsack in three games that were just for fun. The team posed for a photo before its final game.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Members of the Canora initiation program (IP) hockey team attended an exciting single-day tournament in Preeceville.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A total of 16 Canora IP hockey team members attended the Preeceville Pats IP hockey tournament held on January 7 at the Preeceville Skating Arena along with seven other teams. Other teams entered were the Kelvington Wheat Kings, Kamsack Flyers, Yorkton Tim Hortons Terriers, Yorkton Iced Capps, Swan River Squirts, Yorkton Double Doubles and Preeceville Pats.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The 鈥渇un day of hockey,鈥 according to couch Greg Smith, included three games against the Preeceville IP Pats, Yorkton Iced Caps, and Kamsack Flyers.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淎ll of the kids played terrific and although they were not keeping score, our team matched up very well against the other teams,鈥 said Smith.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Skating and puck handling drills were also organized so that players could practice skills while waiting for their games.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 At the end of each game played, awards were presented to players, including the hustler award for the player who skated the hardest and the digger award to the player who worked the hardest during the game.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Digger and hustler awards were awarded to Tessica Mydonick, Jack Currah, Reein Godhe, Zarin Godhe, Emmett Demchuk and Parker Kraynick.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淚t is amazing to see how far each of the kids has come since the beginning of the season. We see improvements in them every time we hit the ice, but most importantly we see smiling faces looking back at us. At this age it is all about having fun and learning. We have a great group of kids, coaches, and parents on our team. I was very proud of our team and how well the kids did at the Preeceville tournament,鈥 said Smith.
