Canada鈥檚 150th anniversary celebrated with food at KCI

As a special treat during Crazy Canuck Day at the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute on March 29, the school held a Taste of Canada event at noon.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 As a special treat during Crazy Canuck Day at the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute on March 29, the school held a Taste of Canada event at noon.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Every second year we like to hold a Taste of the World event in which students in each of the grades bring foods typical of a different country, Glenda Tulloch, an organizer, said. This year, because of Canada鈥檚 150th anniversary, it was decided to alter the event to focus entirely on the foods of Canada.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The event is a community-building, fun activity, she said, adding that families and the student council contributed towards the expenses and 19 tables were set up in the gymnasium each loaded with samples of typically Canadian foods, things that are uniquely Canadian.

Among the foods sampled by the students and staff were butter tarts, saskatoon berries, Coffee Crisp chocolate bars, certain unique flavours of potato chips, wild meat jerky and pepperoni, bannock, jams and jellies and maple syrup.

It having been Crazy Canuck Day, students and staff dressed in the red-and-white colours of Canada and prizes were awarded to the persons with the best costumes. Curtis Berezowski received the prize for the students in grades 5 and 6; Eric Moriarty, grades 7 and 8, and Sadie McGriskin, grades 9 to 12. Tracey Fedorchuk won the prize for having the best costume of members of the staff.
