Cadet squadron holds meeting in Preeceville

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 "This year we have 30 cadets registered," said Capt. Troy Rogowski. "It has exceeded the enrolment in many years.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 It is very exciting to see so many new cadets, Rogowski said. 鈥淲e offer weekly drills combined with classroom time. This year we will be traveling to Camp SaskCadet with four other squadrons for a winter exercise. It has a projected 90 cadets to be in attendance.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 鈥淎t the end of September we will be attending SaskCadet with Indian Head and Melville squadrons for some fun," he said.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The cadets program continues to offer a marksmanship program with the addition of a biathlon exercise. The cadets are also scheduled for an educational trip, although destination is unsure at this point.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The air cadets program is open to youths between 12 and 18 years and there is no registration fee.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭he purpose of cadets is to develop in youths the attributes of leadership and engage in active citizenship and physical fitness within an environment that stimulates an interest in the Canadian Forces,鈥 a release said.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 The cadets are funded by the Department of National Defence, the Air Cadet League (a civilian non-profit organization), Navy League and the Army League. The motto of the air cadets is 鈥淟earn to Serve and Advance,鈥 said Rogowski.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Cadets are given the opportunity to travel, go to Camp SaskCadet and do a variety of monthly activities. They also play a part in the community with their attendance and participation in the annual Remembrance Day Service.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 This year the cadets are scheduled to attend SaskCadet camp during survival air weekend, which is attended by cadets throughout the province. The cadets also participate in sports activities, from curling to volleyball.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 The program鈥檚 leaders are: Capt. Troy Rogowski; Ian Abbott and Levi Young, civilian inductors, and Dustin Hamilton, a volunteer.
