The body of Dallas Miller of Benito, Man. was recovered by the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team on May 31.聽
Miller had been presumed drowned at Madge Lake the afternoon of May 30 when the RCMP were called to Pelican Point near Jubilee boat launch where an adult male was presumed drowned, according to a release from the RCMP on May 31.
Three adults, a male and two females were on the water with five children in a boat and enjoying the day, the release said. One of the children was playing in the water by the ladder of the boat and was pulled away from the boat by the wind and waves.
The adult male jumped in to assist the child and was also pulled away from the boat. The two females tried to assist by throwing lifejackets, but the wind prevented them from reaching the struggling male and child.
One of the females was able to jump into the water and the male pushed the child toward her and into her reach. The male was then lost and did not resurface.
The area was surface searched that night by family members and Ministry of the Environment Conservation officers. The boat launch and Pelican Point were closed and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team attended to the area. Assisting in the search is the Saskatchewan Emergency Services, the Benito Fire and Rescue Department, Victim Services, the Red Cross and Conservation officers.
Miller, 29, was a father of two. The immediate family had requested privacy at this time.
The investigation is now under the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.
