Arran鈥檚 centennial celebrated with three-day event

With 285 persons served at the Arran centennial supper on July 30, the three-day celebration is 小蓝视频 considered a successful event. 鈥淓verything went really well,鈥 said Michelle Mackenzie, a member of the organizing committee.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淓verything went really well,鈥 said Michelle Mackenzie, a member of the organizing committee.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 More than 200 persons were greeted by Mckenzie and Mayor Rick Nahnybida at the registration desk on July 29, Mckenzie said, explaining that much of the activity was centred under a large tent provided by In Good Taste of Togo that had been erected near the gymnasium.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The bar was open, music was 小蓝视频 played and everyone greeted one another, she said.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Saturday鈥檚 events began with a parade, which was larger than expected.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e had about 15 entries, including floats, cars, tractors, horses and quads,鈥 she said. The parade began on the highway, went down Main Street and then ended at the gym.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淎 lot of people were lining the route watching the parade and many participants threw candies to the crowds,鈥 she said. 鈥淭o me, it looked like Yorkton鈥檚 parade.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 During the day, the concession, operated by the recreation board, was open and children were kept occupied by two large 鈥渂ouncy castles.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A short program was held at 2 p.m., with words of welcome and congratulations to the community from Terry Dennis, the Canora-Pelly 小蓝视频; reeves Gilles Comeault of the RM of St. Philips and 聽Gerald Assoignon of the RM of Livingston, and Mayor Nanhybida.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 At 3 p.m., a performance by Saskatchewan Express was held in the tent, and then the supper was served.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A dance floor, constructed in the tent was 鈥渇ull all the time鈥 as 3rd Degree Birnz entertained until 2 a.m.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Sunday began with a pancake breakfast that was served until 11 a.m. by Evelyn Klimm of the Sunshine Centre and members of the recreation board.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A slo-pitch game began, but was paused when Marcia Griffith Trick Riders of Norquay began their 25-minute show.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The event concluded with a fireworks display under the supervision of Herman Kruk and Sheldon Dick.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Recognition was paid to former resident Anna (Chorneyko) Fyck of Calder, who at 94 was the oldest person attending the celebration. She and her son Wes presented the Arran Village with a picture of 鈥淵ukon Joe鈥 Prokopchuk, who had been raised near Arran.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Organizers thanked the people who attended from Western Canada, Ontario and the United States and expressed appreciation for the greeting that was received from Arran Scotland. They thanked all the volunteers for their time, and hard work, saying that 鈥渨ithout their help, we could not have had such a successful 100th anniversary.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A huge thank-you was extended to the Hrycenko family for having made the Arran Centennial sign, plus the cake on the float for the Village of Arran. They thanked Yorkton Plumbing and Heating for their equipment, Ken Newell and staff for running the gate and bar on Saturday night, the Arran recreation board for the concession, and for everything else members did for the celebration; In Good Taste Tent and Event Rental Inc.; Saskatchewan Express; Marcia Griffith Trick Riding; and Third Degree Birnz; the speakers at the program and all those who participated in the parade.

鈥淵ou all did an awesome job,鈥 the organizers said.
