The Saskatchewan Archaeological Caravan stopped in Sturgis to educate and gave a hands-on approach to students at the Sturgis Composite School regarding the fur trade and Metis era. The Sturgis Station House Museum sponsored the caravan.
Students from kindergarten to Grade 7 as well as the public were invited to learn about the Saskatchewan Archaeological Society and had the opportunity to create rock art, ceramic reconstruction, pottery and go bison hunting through an outlined bison recreation.
"The Saskatchewan Archaeological Caravan was first implemented in 2012 with the goal to assist Saskatchewan Museums with their collections in terms of identification and interpretation and to educate school groups and the general public on the province鈥檚 archaeological heritage," said Alisa Philiperko, coordinator and project supervisor.
