The  annual Swan Plain Poker Derby was held Saturday March 5 with 205 snowmobiles registered. Registration was held at Swan Plain Community Center from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.  Breakfast started at 8:30 a.m. and everyone was welcome to come for that. The last departure was at 11:30 a.m.

It was a beautiful sunny day, with the trail leading 65 miles through the scenic Porcupine Forest. Fuel, oil, and hot dogs were available at the halfway point.  Supper, which was open to the public, was served on participants’ return from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.  As always, a large crowd attended.

All hands were $10 each or three for $20. Cash prizes were for most ghost hands sold, also for first, second and third-place drivers. There was also a silent auction table.

Barry Griffith won for most ghost hands brought in.

Prizes for ghost hands (cash) went to Matt Cherewyk of Norquay, first; Allyson  Grywacheski of Preeceville, second; and Ethan Huduk of Yorkton, third.

Prizes for drivers: Justin Hudye of Norquay (cash prize and trophy), first; Kyle  Inverarity of Saskatoon, second, and Curtis Danyluk of Yorkton (cash prize), third.

Two food hampers were raffled. The first went to Roy Holodniuk of Norquay, and the second to Sarah Friday of Preeceville. The commitee would like to thank everyone who donated and bid on them.

The trophy for the participant from the farthest away was won by Michel Devloo of Hillarville, Alta. The trophy for the oldest driver went to Del Unterschutte of McBride Lake.   The skunk trophy went to Darrel Nelson of Pelly.
