Academic awards presented during Sturgis graduation program

The Sturgis Composite High School graduates were introduced by Kipp Bayer, teacher, as they entered the high school gymnasium with their parents during the school鈥檚 graduation exercises on May 25. A brief history of their school life was shared.

The Sturgis Composite High School graduates were introduced by Kipp Bayer, teacher, as they entered the high school gymnasium with their parents during the school鈥檚 graduation exercises on May 25.

A brief history of their school life was shared. When all grads were seated on stage, Sherry Lesser led the singing of O Canada with Val Hallick as organist.

Mark Forsythe, superintendent of education for the Good Spirit School Division (GSSD),recited the message from the Ministry of Education.

The presentation of scrolls was narrated by Michael Andrusko, who told a story about each grad while Bayer presented the scrolls.

The academic awards are presented to graduates who have achieved an 80 per cent or higher average in Grades 10, 11 and 12. Kristen Peterson and Meghan Hurlburt presented the academic awards.

Bo Babiuk achieved an 85 per cent average in Grades 10, 11 and 12. Lyka Puyos achieved an 83 per cent average overall. Kaeleigh Folk achieved an 88 per cent average. Peyton Secundiak achieved a 91 per cent average in Grades 10, 11 and 12. Tyler Antoniuk achieved a 92.5 per cent average.

Graduate Cole Kowalchuk achieved the top average in Grades 10, 11 and 12 with 93 per cent.

Graduates Cole Kowalchuk and Bo Babiuk each received the male athlete award.

Graduate Peyton Secundiak was presented the female athlete award.

Graduate Kaeleigh Folk was the winner of the fighting heart award.

The most improved student award was presented to Tyler Antoniuk. Antoniuk also received the congeniality award.

Graduates were acknowledged and presented with scholarships during the scholarship and awards portion.

Graduate Roberta Kaytor was presented with the Sturgis Museum scholarship for $250.

Graduate Serra Hort received the Sturgis School Community Council scholarship for $300.

Graduate Peyton Secundiak received the Sturgis Kinette Club scholarship for $300. Secundiak also received the Good Spirit Teachers Association scholarship for $750 and the Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan, Sturgis Chapter scholarship for $100.

Graduate Jamie Messenger received the Gateway Co-op, Sturgis branch scholarship for $200.

Graduate Kaeleigh Folk received the Sturgis Kinsmen Herb Larson Memorial scholarship for $500.

Graduate Bo Babiuk received the Preeceville Hospital Auxiliary bursary for $300. Babiuk also received the Canora Ambulance Care scholarship for $500.

Graduate Tyler Antoniuk received the Royal Canadian Mounted Police scholarship for $300. Antoniuk also received the Sturgis 4-H club scholarship for $100 and the Crossroads Credit Union scholarship for $500.

Graduate Cole Kowalchuk received the Town of Sturgis scholarship for $500 and the Crop Production Services scholarship for $500.

Graduate Lyka Puyos received the Union of Nurses scholarship for $500.

Kelsey Seerey presented the District Governor General Medal to Kristiaan Rayner who is a 2017 Sturgis graduate.

Kristen Peterson was the guest speaker, followed by a slide presentation.

Graduates Tyler Antoniuk and Bo Babiuk gave the valedictory address.

Kipp Bayer gave the closing remarks which were followed by the grand march, under the direction of Kirsten Peterson.

Graduates Peyton Secundiak and Kaeleigh Folk were responsible for putting together the slide presentation.
