Saskatchewan is seeing an alarming trend in the criminal shooting of domestic livestock throughout the province. 鈥淚t鈥檚 not uncommon for some animals to be injured in hunting season, but these cases seem to be blatantly criminal in nature versus an accidental shooting,鈥� said Kelcy Elford, Saskatchewan Stock Growers president, in a release.
The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association have partnered to SaskTip (Turn In Poachers) to provide a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to a conviction of anyone found illegally shooting livestock. 鈥淭his type of behavior is condemned by the law-abiding hunting and firearm communities,鈥� said Clark Schultz, Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation president, adding 鈥渢hese people are criminals.鈥�
Lorne Scott, SaskTip Board chair, welcomes the support and cooperation of the SSGA and SWF, stating the importance of 鈥渃ollectively working with livestock producers and law abiding citizens to curtail irresponsible and needless destruction and suffering of domestic animals.鈥�
Anyone with information that could assist in the apprehension and prosecution of any individual illegally shooting domestic livestock, is asked to please call the Turn In Poachers Line, toll-free, at 1-800-667-7561. Tips can remain anonymous, and may be eligible for a cash reward if the information leads to a conviction.
