Yorkton Council has proclaimed the week of Nov. 3 to 11 as Veteran's Week in the city following a request from the Royal Canadian Legion General Alexander Ross Branch #77 Yorkton.
In making the request of Council Peter Wyatt president of the local Legion explained there will be several programs dedicated to marking the week in the city.
To start the week the Flag of Remembrance will be raised at City Hall Nov. 3.
The sale of poppies in the city will begin later, with the help of youth cadet, cub and scout organizations in the city,
Members of the local Legion will begin selling wreaths Oct. 29.
Legion colour parties will begin visiting schools and nursing homes in Yorkton and area Nov. 8. Wyatt said in co-operation with the local militia, one member of each colour party will be an Afghanistan veteran.
A church parade, at the St. Gerard's Catholic Church will be held Nov. 7, at 11 a.m., with the public invited to participate.
Remembrance Day services will be held at the Flexihall in the Gallagher Centre Nov. 11.
The request was made at the regular meeting of Council Monday, and was unanimously supported by Council.
