The number of Saskatchewan people receiving Employment Insurance decreased by 940 in November 2010, compared to the same month in 2009 (seasonally adjusted). This is the eighth consecutive month of year-over-year decreases.Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris said that the drop in EI recipients is part of a broader improvement in economic conditions for Saskatchewan people.
"With increases in employment and average weekly earnings, Saskatchewan workers continue to benefit from a robust and growing economy," Norris said. "There is reason for continued optimism as eight independent forecasters are predicting Saskatchewan will lead Canada in growth in 2011."
On a per capita basis, Saskatchewan is tied with Manitoba for the second fewest number of people receiving EI benefits in Canada at 2.0 per cent. Alberta is the lowest at 1.8 per cent.
"While we do see some improvement, we continue to work with those people who are affected by unemployment and re-connect them to the labour market through our rapid response teams," Norris said. "Our 19 Can-Sask Career and Employment Services offices stand ready to provide assistance in matching job seekers with opportunities."
Norris added that with more than 7,200 jobs available today on www.saskjobs.ca, opportunities are available in every corner of the province.
