Darlene (England) and Stewart Stevenson arrived at coffee row recently with pictures of their brand new granddaughter, Ivy Wu Stevenson, born July 23 weighing in at 6 lbs 8 oz.
Ivy is the first child of son, Dean and Muriel from Surrey, BC. Ivy joins 4 other grandchildren, the youngest of which is 31 and the oldest, 42. There are also 5 great-grandchildren.
The Stevenson's are looking forward to meeting Ivy when she comes to Saskatchewan in September to help her grandparents celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.
Congratulations also to Muriel's mom, Qing Yun Ge, from Hunan, China.
Sympathy to Bob Davies on the passing of his nephew, Brian Hicks. Brian was born Nov. 17, 1959 at Coronach, Sk and departed July 25, 2010 at Bengough. Brian was the youngest of 4 children born to Bob's sister, Margaret (now deceased) and Dean Hicks, formerly of Big Beaver and now of Bengough.Dean was an elevator agent for many years.
Congratulations to Rodney Groseth & June Haas who became grandparents for the first time, August 4, when Liz (Groseth) and Kevin Roche had a baby girl, EllaJoy Roche,weighing 7 lbs 11 oz.Congratulations, also, to great-grandma Iris, new auntie Lexa andgreat auntie Daphne Meunier.Effie Skene shared birthday cake with the residents of the Broadview Centennial Lodge on Thursday.
Her nieces, Vivian Talbot and Lucille Stradeski visited with herthat afternoon.
Lloyd and Janet Siever had their only daughter, Marie, visiting and helping to unpack as they settle in to their new home on Noel St. David and Lauri Leitch, Connor and Joshua arrived July 31 from Calgary on motorcycles to visit with his mom, Diane and Marvin Horachek. David and Lauri continued on to various points in the USA while the boys stayed on in Dubuc returning to Calgary by air on Aug. 18.
Tina Lipinski of Reginaaccompanied by her daughter, Diana and Ed Reid, was visiting for a few days with her sister-in-law Mary Nagy.
Elaine (Smulan) & Ken Domierof Edmonton dropped in to visit her cousins, Leona & Joe Kaczur and Donald & Glenda Bell.Also visiting the Bells and taking in the potluck supper, was Glenda's cousin, Bruce
McKerchar and Yvonne Flora-McKerchar of Lloydminster, AB.40 people enjoyed the monthly community potluck supper on Wednesday, August 11. John and Judy Talbot of Esterhazy returned home to enjoy the bountiful supper. Frances Thauberger of Yorkton accompanied her mom, Carolyn, who is holidaying at her summer home on Bernier Street. Darline Yuke attended her inaugral potluck as a newcomer to Dubuc only this month.Also, Tarra Nielsen and Josh & Connor Leitch accompanied their grandparents to the supper.
Catherine Flaman of Toronto, Ontario is presently spending a week with school chum, Julie (Bawden) & Joey Duchekrenewing acquaintances in the area. She is enjoying getting to know the Duchek children, Paisley and Keaton.
The Qu'Appelle Valley Threshermen enjoyed a successful 27th Annual Threshing Show on Sunday, August 9. The crowd was a little smaller than last year but the ladies in the kitchen were okay with that. The temperature outside was about 90 and inside I think 190!!! The plowing, roadbuilding, parade of machinery & threshing went well, with a few glitches, these machines are old and cantankerous like many of the club members.
It was so nice to see the number of young children that were there with their parents, having a chance to learn first hand how their great-grandparents and grandparents farmed when settling this great province of ours.Also, the children enjoyedrides behind the lawn tractor, driven by Rudy Duchek, in the little carts built by his son, Wayne. Their interest is good to see and is also a real learning experience for some of their parents.
The great old-tyme music provided by Trevor Kerr kept everybody's toes tapping.I would like to tip my hat to all the club members for a job well done.The grounds were exceptionally nice this year, and despite the fact that we are all getting older, we managed to run the outside displays, the blacksmith shop and the kitchen without falling over mostly because of thegallons of water as well as many snow cones from a new concession from Melville,which alsosold popcorn, cotton candy and fresh mini-donuts made in a donut machine on site.
The club would like to thank all who attended, many of whom have been with us every year since we started, those who brought their machinery and displays or made donations, Gene Council and his wife for the great concession, which was enjoyed by all and to allwho worked so hard in the extreme heatto make this show another great success. The Good Lord willing and the creeks don't rise, we'll see you all next year.
