A Manitoba family lost both of its parents and a 17-year-old girl is dead after a collision on Highway 16 Sunday morning.
As of Tuesday, two of the four children involved in the crash were still in Regina Hospital with critical injuries.
The Manitoba family of six was in a minivan on its way home to Winnipeg when at approximately 11:30 a.m., one kilometer east of Saltcoats, the 17-year-old female driver of a Honda Civic heading the other way attempted to pass another vehicle.
Visibility was reduced due to snow. The two vehicles collided head-on.
The teenaged driver of the sedan and both 38-year-old parents in the front seats of the minivan were declared dead on the scene. Their four children in the back seats were all taken to
hospital: two, aged 16 and 9, to Yorkton, and two, aged 15 and 13, to Regina via airlift.
The deceased 17-year-old was the only passenger of the Honda Civic.
A third eastbound vehicle driving behind the minivan and carrying two passengers was also involved in the crash, but police have not released any details.
The families of the deceased have requested that no names be released at this time.
