The City of Yorkton held two public meetings this week to provide details about its plan to hold a Community Strategic Plan Conference.

About 40 people attended the two meetings to hear how individuals can become involved in the process.

Mayor James Wilson said the turnout was gratifying. He said it showed those attending "have a heart for our community."

Wilson said it was an important step to be at the meeting.

"It's very important what we're going to be talking about," he said. "It's very important in the development in our future."

Wilson said participation in the two-and-a-half day conference will be "an investment," in helping create a document "that will take us beyond today for tomorrow."

The key to the conference is that it will go beyond Council, said Wilson.

"It's not just Council. It's a community planning session," said the Mayor. " The plan 小蓝视频 developed belongs to all of us."

To create the plan the City is looking for 41 community participants drawn from specific sectors of the city, ranging from community groups, to arts and sports groups, First Nation people and even agriculture.

Wilson said those taking part will have to work at the process.

"Planning can be very painstaking, but the outcome is well worth it," he said.

Wilson said participants will work on things such as determining "what do we need to change to improve our quality of life."

Those wishing to participate can apply by calling the City of Yorkton at 786-1700, or going to www.yorkton.ca for online application. People must apply by Oct. 15, with successful participants attending a pre-conference briefing Oct. 20.

Councillor Bob Maloney said they do ask that those participating be willing to bring ideas forward during the process,

"This is going to be work. We're going to want people to voice their opinions," he said. " We're looking for some diverse opinions."
