The 34th annual Easter Seals Snowarama was held this past weekend on Saturday, February 19 in Yorkton. Seven year old Easter Seals Ambassador Caitlyn Hasper was in attendance to start the ride and was presented with an Easter Seals snowmobile helmet.
The event, now in its 34th year attracted snowmobilers from across the prairie provinces and raised a record breaking $127,728.
The Easter Seals Snowarama is a fundraising event that combines winter fun and community spirit in support of Easter Seals Saskatchewan.
Barry Bradshaw, Committee Chair of the 2011 Easter Seals Snowarama, stated "We are very pleased with all the fundraising efforts to support children with disabilities and how the trail stood up given the snow conditions."
"Strong support from our riders, volunteers, sponsors, the community, the Snowmobile Association, and local media helps make this event a huge success year-after-year," says John Denysek, Regional Director of the Saskatchewan Abilities Council.
The Easters Seals Snowarama funds three children's programs that are offered and operated by the Saskatchewan Abilities Council: Adaptive Technology Services, Summer Fun, and Camp Easter Seal. The programs provide self-confidence, independence, and recreational opportunities for children with disabilities.
Platinum sponsors of the event include Yorkton Co-op, Yorkton Sno-Riders, and the Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association. The top three fundraisers were Ken Propp, Bruce Peppler and Larry Hilworth.
