Six steps for small business success

Some people start their own business blindly without first developing certain skills that will help ensure their success. And yet there are many schools, entrepreneurial training centres, and various government programs that are there to help.


Some people start their own business blindly without first developing certain skills that will help ensure their success.

And yet there are many schools, entrepreneurial training centres, and various government programs that are there to help.

These programs can vary greatly, but most will include the following six points: entrepreneurial training, defining the scope of your business, developing a business plan, management, sales techniques and negotiating the financing of your business.

The first step focuses on the student's abilities and planned future projects as an entrepreneur.

This involves analyzing your own potential as well as that of your life goals in light of what it really means to be an entrepreneur.

For the next step, it is important to clearly define your business in three stages: describing your business idea, learning about the laws that apply to your business, and evaluating to what extent your business will complement you as an entrepreneur.

The third step is by far the most important. It is at this point that you will establish the foundations on which your business will be built.

This involves putting together a business plan and market study.

The fourth step is equally important because it allows you to outline the various duties and conditions that will be inherent to your specific type of business-for both you and future employees. It is at this point that you will also learn to effectively manage resources, productivity and a budget, as well as how to coordinate all activities.

The fifth step will concentrate on sales techniques. This will teach you how to establish a good contact with clients, how to determine your clients' needs, overcome objections and close a sale.

Last but not least, the sixth and last step will teach you how to effectively negotiate the financing of your business.
