Saskatchewan has seen another substantial year over year decrease in the number of Employment Insurance (EI) beneficiaries in the province.
According to the latest report from Statistics Canada, July 2010 saw 12,610 EI beneficiaries receiving regular benefits in Saskatchewan, a decrease of 1,530 or 10.8 per cent from the same month last year.
"Saskatchewan's economy is generating opportunities for people across the province, and today's numbers reflect that," Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris said. "With growing employment, growing wages and a growing population, Saskatchewan people are seeing the benefits of economic growth."
On a per capita basis, Saskatchewan has the second fewest number of people receiving EI benefits in Canada at 1.9 per cent, behind only Alberta (1.8 per cent).
"We are focused on doing what we can to keep these numbers moving in the right direction," Norris said. "Our rapid response teams stand ready to help employers and workers facing layoffs, and the capable staff in our 19 Can-Sask Career and Employment Services Centres are working every day to match job seekers with opportunities."
Norris also pointed to the more than 6,800 jobs posted to www.saskjobs.caas a sign of the opportunities available in Saskatchewan.
