Sally Ann seeks volunteers

About this time of year we will once again hear the ringing of the Salvation Army's Christmas kettle on our travels.

About this time of year we will once again hear the ringing of the Salvation Army's Christmas kettle on our travels.

Yorkton Salvation Army Envoy RoyBladen encourages anyone with a smile to volunteer, and this year people manning the kettle for at least three shifts are entitled to a Boston Pizza or Burger King food voucher, said Bladen.

Shifts last two hours and can be anywhere between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m, Monday to Saturday, at one of four Yorkton locations: the Parkland Mall, WalMart, Superstore, and the liquor store.

"If you have somebody standing by a kettle, the average income from that kettle will probably be somewhere between $100 and $150... if you have nobody standing on the kettle you will make $10 or less," said Bladen.

Last year $68,000 was raised, and Bladen said he would like to see $90,000 this year. Kettle proceeds go toward funding for 2011.

Bladen sends an invitation to service clubs and churches to volunteer too. "I would love to see every shift filled if that happens, I know without a shadow of a doubt, we can meet our goal." Other volunteering opportunities include helping at the

thrift store or food bank.

New to the community, Bladen wishes to extend gratitude. "We thank you for the anticipated support of the public. This is my first year in Yorkton and I'm really excited about it and I'm sure the lord will provide," said Bladen.

If you wish to volunteer, please contact Envoy Roy Bladen at 621-4449.
