Helen and Charlie Johnson from Manitou Beach near Watrous were drop-in coffee guests with Audrey and Peter Nielsen one afternoon last week on their way back from visiting out East.
Len and Gladys Simle welcomed grandson, Darwin Harder, and his fiancee, Desiree Enns, from Mordon, MB on the weekend. Another grandson, Quentin Simle, and his friend, Cecilia Johnstone, from Yorkton and also granddaughter, Rachel (Simle) and Shayne Wagner, and the great-grandkids, Brooklyn and Abby, from McNutt motored to Dubuc to join them for dinner on Saturday.
McAlpine family members from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario descended to Bird's Point Resort this past August long weekend for a family reunion. Stew and Marian McAlpine, along with their children, Robert & Carolyn McAlpine and Scott & Lisa McAlpine and families, hosted the 3 day celebration. The weekend began with visiting and registration at Edna and Orville Paulson's cabin at Bird's Point Friday evening. Blair and Rick Birch and Valerie Matchett hosted a bon fire and sing-a-long later in the evening.
Sharon and Dave Tabbernor, Deanna McAlpine and Lorraine and Marcel Richer organized the Texas Scramble golf tournament at Esterhazy Golf Course Saturday morning. Many family members participated and enjoyed the great weather and the wonderful company. Prizes were awarded for low score, longest drive and longest putt. The golfers ages ranged from 9 years old to 85 years young.
Family members enjoyed a catered meal from Bird's Point and danced to the music of Len Gadica Saturday evening. To add to the fun of the weekend and help with extra reunion expenses, a Silent Auction was organized by Jeannie, Laura, Deb McAlpine, Pat MacBain and Cheryl Miller. Family members donated a wide variety of items including hockey jerseys, original artwork, thin bread and homemade crafts.
Sunday activities were held at Rhonda and John Haubrich's farm south of Dubuc. Family members joined in the Scottish Games with Doug Brown piping in the athletes and Bill Buchanan, Blair Birch and Cameron MacBain officiating the events. Gerry McAlpine presented the Haggis at the beginning of the games and Sean McAlpine toasted the games. Isabelle Brown and Ronald McAlpine were the Honorary Chieftains as the oldest living siblings. After the games, it was back to Bird's Point for another catered meal. Another bon fire was held at the "Birch Cabin" with more sings and visiting.
Maureen and Barb Wilson visited with parents, John and Joan Wilson, for a couple of days while on holidays. They were passing through to Winnipeg to attend a wedding and to visit with family and friends there.
They moved from Winnipeg just over a year ago and now live in Shaunavon where Maureen has her first posting with the RCMP.
