The Saskatchewan Health Authority鈥檚 (SHA) public health flu shot clinics began Monday, October 19.
Flu immunization is especially important for people at high-risk of influenza complications 鈥� such as pregnant women, young children, elderly people, those with underlying health conditions, or people who are immune-compromised. Caregivers are also recommended to get their shot.
The flu vaccine is a safe, effective way to help people stay healthy, prevent illness and save lives. The flu vaccine is offered through public health clinics across the province, some physician and nurse practitioner offices and in most pharmacies.
In Yorkton a drive-thru flu shot clinic will take place October 31, Nov 7 and Nov 21 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. This clinic is located at 276 Myrtle Ave, Yorkton.
Drive-thru clinics are suitable for people who are healthy individuals who have no previous concern with the flu shot. Clients that should not use the drive-thru include:
Anyone with previous history of anaphylaxis or allergy to influenza vaccination
Patients with unknown history of anaphylaxis (receiving influenza vaccine for the first time)
If clients are interested in drive-thru flu shots they are asked to come prepared. Be ready for an immunization by wearing loose clothing that will allow for access to the shoulder area.
