Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert recently announced the province of Saskatchewan is donating $200,000 to the Canadian Red Cross Society for their assistance in communities impacted by flooding this year.
"The Red Cross played a critical role working side by side with government to assist victims of this summer's flooding," Huyghebaert said. "While the province's emergency response teams were helping communities mitigate damage from flooding, the Red Cross was tending to many of the residents' physical needs, including food, clothing and shelter. For their efforts and on behalf of Saskatchewan residents we thank them."
"We are grateful for this generous donation from the Government to help Red Cross assist the people of Saskatchewan," Red Cross Provincial Director Cindy Fuchs said. "Together, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those affected by severe weather throughout Saskatchewan, providing assistance without duplication and in the best way possible."
While the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) provided assistance to communities who incurred substantial damage or loss to essential and uninsurable property caused by this summer's flooding, the Red Cross looked after the physical needs of residents including food, shelter and clothing.
This year, more than 200 Saskatchewan communities have been designated as eligible disaster areas.
