Saskatchewan workers led the nation in March with average weekly earnings increasing 4.8 per cent over the same month last year.
According to Statistics Canada's Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours, Saskatchewan's 4.8 per cent increase was tied with Newfoundland and Labrador for top spot. The national year-over-year increase was 2.9 per cent.
Saskatchewan's average weekly earnings of $838.23 are an all-time record, and are the third highest in Canada after Alberta ($998.49) and Ontario ($875.48).
"Saskatchewan workers are clearly benefiting from our province's economic position," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "We've seen record numbers of people working in each of the past three months, average weekly earnings are at record levels and our population is at an all-time high."
On a month-to-month basis, Saskatchewan led all provinces with a 1.4 per cent increase in average weekly earnings, well above the national increase of 0.4 per cent.
"With forecasters placing Saskatchewan among the leaders in economic growth, job prospects in Saskatchewan also continue to grow," Norris said. "Right now, there are 6,000 jobs available in every corner of the province on saskjobs.ca."
