Premier Brad Wall accepted detailed commitments of the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan's (PotashCorp) "Pledge to Saskatchewan."
In a letter to Premier Wall from its President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Doyle, PotashCorp outlined further details of its "Pledge to Saskatchewan" which was first announced last October.
The letter outlines specific targets for increasing the number of people working for PotashCorp in Saskatchewan, both at its Saskatoon head office and in its mines:300 employees in the Saskatoon office by the end of 2013, up from 209 at the end of 2010;11 of 14 senior executives working in Saskatoon by the end of this March, an increase of five; and2,528 working at PotashCorp mines in Saskatchewan by 2015, up from 2,016 in 2010.Wall said the employment increases represent a major commitment to Saskatchewan.
"That's more than 600 more people working for PotashCorp in Saskatchewan by 2015," Wall said. "PotashCorp is an important part of the new era of growth in the new Saskatchewan and I thank them for their strong commitment to our province."
In its letter, PotashCorp's "Pledge to Saskatchewan" makes a number of other commitments, including:an ongoing commitment to Canpotex, which markets and delivers Saskatchewan potash throughout the world;development of a strong Aboriginal workforce through increased training and employment opportunities for First Nations and M茅tis people;an increase in contributions to charitable and community organizations to one per cent of before-tax income and a commitment to the helicopter-based Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service (STARS) air ambulance program;ongoing commitment to supporting Saskatchewan companies through local purchasing; anda $5.7 billion commitment to mine expansion in Saskatchewan, including a $2.8 expansion at Rocanville, employing more than 1,200 contractors in the construction phase.
"We understand the strong and mutually beneficial role that our company plays in the province, and we will always seek to do what is right for the people of Saskatchewan and the company's stakeholders," Doyle said. "On behalf of everyone at the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan, we look forward to continuing to play a vital role in the Province of Saskatchewan for decades."
