Ottenbreit seeking re-election in 2011

Greg Ottenbreit will once again carry the Saskatchewan Party colours into the scheduled provincial election in November 2011 following his constituency nomination Sept. 9.

Greg Ottenbreit will once again carry the Saskatchewan Party colours into the scheduled provincial election in November 2011 following his constituency nomination Sept. 9.

Monday Ottenbreit told Yorkton This Week he had anticipated seeking a second term right from the outset of his political career recognizing the initial four years would be a time to learn the ropes of the Legislature and the political system.

Ottenbreit said the current term has gone well for him, and for the local riding, but it has been an education too.

"I learned a lot. I've created some relationships I've found my way around the legislature, people and how things really happen," he said.

Ottenbreit said he recalls Premier Brad Wall asking him if he thought there was a learning curve, and he answered it was less a curve and was really "almost straight up."

He added others have likened learning the political system to "drinking out of a fire hose" and that analogy is a good one. " There's so much coming at you, so much to learn."

Ottenbreit said it is something he has adapted too, recognizing he can rely on staff and colleagues to share the workload.

With the knowledge he has gained, Ottenbreit, who was unopposed locally, is looking forward to another term if re-elected in 2011.

Looking ahead to the election, Ottenbreit said he believes the focus will be leadership.

He said the focus is likely to be less on "the parties" but more on leaders Brad Wall and NDP opponent Dwain Lingenfelter.
