Residents of Milne Bay in the city are concerned with the speed of vehicles on the street and are willing to fund the installation of temporary speed bumps to slow drivers.
Fred Schrader, a resident on the street appeared before the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday with the proposal.
"Some of the homeowners on Milne Bay feel the bumps are necessary since there are 14 children under the age of 11 and in order to ensure the safety of these children and of other children in the neighbourhood," explained a letter from Schrader circulated to Council.
The families suggested installing the temporary speed bumps at two locations on the street.
"We are proposing to install three, six-foot sections at each location. Each section is manufactured with reflective traffic tape and 'Cat Eye' reflectors for high visibility," stated the letter.
The bumps would be installed each spring, and removed by mid-October to facilitate snow removal.
"The concerned parents would be responsible for the purchase of the temporary speed bumps, installation and removal each year, as well as the repair of the pin holes in the street," stated Schrader's letter.
Schrader added all residents of the street contacted were in support of the proposal.
Council referred the matter to its Planning and Engineering Department for review and report back to Council.
