The City of Yorkton and the Rural Municipalities of Orkney and Wallace are joining forces to undertake a Planning for Growth initiative.
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs, Enter-prise Saskatchewan and Infrastructure Canada announced in June funding for a regional planning program for Saskatchewan," explained material circulated at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.
"The Planning for Growth initiative will enhance regional planning capacity and establish best practices in facilitating sustainable growth and development across this province. This initiative will cost-share in projects that facilitate regional planning, build municipal and professional planning capacity and build or enhance relationships to support regional planning initiatives."
Gord Shaw, with the City's Planning and Engineering Department, explained the Yorkton District Planning Commission identified that new Development PLans and Zoning Bylaws for the Planning District would be appropriate.
"The Commission has been working with Stu McFadyen to develop an estimate of time and costs for preparing this work," stated the material.
Both the RM of Orkney and Wallace have formal council resolutions provided to the Yorkton District Planning Commission, making Yorkton Council's decision Monday the last of the three to formally become involved.
The province will fund up 50 per cent of costs, up to $50,000. The remaining 50 per cent will be covered by the three municipalities, the two rural municipalities covering 25 per cent each of those costs, and the city the remaining 50 per cent.
