Cuts made in last year's budget appear to be having their intended effect as the Sunrise Health Region reports a moderate surplus for the period ending November 30, 2010.
A report at the health board's February meeting showed operating expenses below revenue by close to $1.3 million, or about one percent of the total budget.
The region attributes the surplus to a combination of budgeted positions that remain unfilled and unexpectedly high reciprocal revenue (payments transferred from other provinces for care rendered to residents from outside Saskatchewan).
