The number of Employment Insurance (EI) beneficiaries in Saskatchewan has dropped for the sixth straight month.
September 2010 saw 13,000 EI beneficiaries receiving regular benefits in Saskatchewan, a decrease of 1,560 or 10.7 per cent from the same month last year.
"With record employment for each of the past nine months and continued demand for skilled workers, Saskatchewan remains a place of opportunity for people here at home, across Canada and around the world," Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris said. "In a year where Saskatchewan's population grew by more than 16,000, we witnessed a drop in EI beneficiaries."
On a per capita basis, Saskatchewan has the second fewest number of people receiving EI benefits in Canada at 2.0 per cent.
"While employment numbers continue to improve, we are sensitive to the situations of those who are currently seeking work," Norris said. "Our Can-Sask Career and Employment Services offices across the province offer assistance in matching job seekers with career opportunities throughout Saskatchewan."
Norris also pointed to the more than 6,700 jobs posted to Saskjobs.ca as a sign of the opportunities available in Saskatchewan.
