Yorkton residents participating in the Curbside Recycling Program will now contain their recyclables to be picked up in a clear, blue, plastic bag, as opposed to the bins 小蓝视频 usedsince the launch of the program in 2005.
The change will mean less litter on the streets, said Melvin Pritchard, operations manager for Prairie Harvest Recycling Program. "The bags will need to be tied so the material will not blow away."There was also a common complaint of lack of volume available in the bins, which the bags will allow, he added.
Administration will also be improved, he said, since residents will no longer need to telephone for a bin.The bags are also more environmentally friendly.
Residents can now go to any retail store in Yorkton, where the inexpensive bags, along with an informational card, with guidelines and tips on recycling, are on display.
Four free recycling bags, along with an informational card, will be delivered to existing curbside recyclers. The City of Yorkton has declared Oct. 18 to 22 Waste Reduction Week.
