Yorkton Council passed two bylaws at its regular meeting June 28 which will help a new apartment complex move forward in the city.
The 63-unit complex is planned for 7 Alderwood Place and required Council to re-designate the property from institutional to residential under the City's Municipal Development Plan.
In order to maximize the potential of the property the developers requested to build a four-storey complex.The request required Council to amend its Zoning Bylaw to increase the maximum building height in an R-3 Zone to allow for a fourth floor.
Both changes were unanimous.
Ken Wilson, representing the complex developers, spoke to Council June 28. He said the fourth floor was requested because they "want to maximize the number of units on the property."
The development which will initially open as rental apartments with a feature underground parking.The apartments will have a minimum square footage of 1,076, with two bedrooms, larger units with two bedrooms and a den will be 1,458 square feet.
Construction is planned to begin in October, if not sooner, with completion within 12 to 15 months. Cost of the development is estimated at $11.5 million.
