Condo conversion approved

Stephen Onda of Sundog Developments appeared before the regular meeting of Council Monday to request permission to convert 14 Allan Bay in the city to condominiums.

Stephen Onda of Sundog Developments appeared before the regular meeting of Council Monday to request permission to convert 14 Allan Bay in the city to condominiums.

The development, which received the unanimous consent of Council, will see the property converted to six two-storey, townhouse-style units from the existing 12 single[storey units.

The building had been empty pending upgrades ordered by the city in 2009. The property recently changed hands with Sundog taking on the condo-development project.

City Planner Michael Eger said the conversion meets the City's Condominium Conversion Policy since the building was empty, so does not create tenant hardship.

Vacancy rates in the city, according to the most recent Saskatchewan Rental Market Survey in April, were 4.1 per cent, higher than the threshold three per cent rate which freezes conversions.

Councillor Les Arnlein said the conversion upgrades a building which has been in "disrepair the last number of years."
