The community was shocked and saddened at the sudden passing of Bob Davies on Friday, August 27, 2010.Bob had just celebrated his 90th birthday on July 24 with 31 people at coffee row plus he had several other visitors at his home. He was still a very active participant in everything that went on in our community. Bob was a church elder, World War II veteran, farmer, town councillor, and the best darned grain shoveler & hauler you ever will meet. He was always just a phone call away whenever anyone needed a ride or had a job to do and needed another hand to get it done. He was always a willing worker, a great neighbour, very community minded, generous and kind.His passing will leave a big hole in our little village - he will be missed so terribly much by everyone... he was everyone's friend. The community sends condolences to all his family members, especially, his brother John & Dee Davies and family of Hamilton, Ont, his brother-in-law, Dean Hicks (sister Margaret deceased), and all their family from the Bengough area, and his aunt, Mary Ramstead, and her family from Dubuc.The young and old came from near and far to fill the Memorial Hall to capacity for his funeral service on September 1.
Velma (Talbot) and Raymond Fuchs from Grayson were out of town guests at coffee row on August 24. 17 people, including a couple of Velma's school chums from years gone by, visiteduntil almost noon so coffee row lasted a little longer than usual!! The regulars love to have visitors drop in that aren't able to be there all the time... Tuesdays and Saturday mornings from 9:30 a.m. until "who knows when" at the hut on main street.
Get well wishes to Rene Kulcsar of Good Spirit Lake, Dean Hershmiller, Melville and Keith Croswell from Saltcoats who have all been under the weather. We hope you are all on the mend by the time this reaches printing.
Sympathy of Dubuc and community goes out to the family and friends of Williard Hustak, Regina, formerly of Stockholm, who passed away recently. He and his wife, Mary, spent summers camping at Crooked Lake and visiting the many relatives and friends they had in the Stockholm-Grayson area.
The Dubuc Heritage Worship Centre Committee has planned a fall/Thanksgiving worship service to be held in the Dubuc Worship Centre at 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 17. If anyone has vegetables, preserves, etc. to lend us to decorate the sanctuary, please bring them or call Vivian Talbot to pick them up. This is a community worship service - all denominations are invited to take part - everyone is welcome. Mark the date on your calendars.
Shirley (Willway) Epp of Saskatoon and her mom, Betty (F. E.) Willway, from Wolseley were afternoon tea visitors with Vivian and Jim Talbot on Monday, August 30. While Shirley spent a few days with her mom, they also visited with Effie Skene in Broadview Centennial Care Home and also with Dorothy Skene and a few other Legion ladies at a morning coffee clatch in Yorkton. Get well wishes go to Jean's (Willway) husband, Larry Campbell, who is wearing a halo following a horse-back-riding accident earlier this summer.
News has reached the community that Dorothy Sabina "Dot" (Lambie) Fetterly passed away on June 2, 2010. Sympathy goes out to the Lambie families on the passing of a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Dot was born March 13, 1924 on the family farm at Dubuc to the late Margaret (Brooks) and William Lambie. She grew up with brothers and sisters, Robert and Evelyn, who predeceased her and Arthur, John (Douglas),Margaret , and Jean. After finishing high school, she joined the army and became a nurse. She married Harry Fetterly, who was also in the army, 63 years ago, in 1947 and together they raised 2 daughters, Linda Kerr & Terry Collins while living in North Bay, Ontario.
Charles Johnson and Pat Shotenski of Kamsack visited with cousins, Peter and Audrey (Johnson) Nielsen following the funeral for Bob Davies. Jean Kulcsar, Lucy Issel and Elaine Kovacs from Yorkton also did some visiting following the funeral service when they stopped to see Lorraine Toth who is recuperating at home following surgery.
