The City of Yorkton is moving toward the sale of parcel of land west of the Gallagher Centre on which Water Treatment Plant #2 currently sits.
"The City is interested in selling the subject property to companies that have the ability or in partnership with another company, to develop it," stated material circulated to Council Monday.
The site consists of 1.10 hectares, and Crown Appraisals recently completed an appraisal of the parcel and deemed it to have a value of $708,000.
"A Request for Proposals document has been prepared by the City for issuance once authorization is granted by the City Council for the sale of this property," explained the information package.
When asked, City Manager David Putz said the City has been approached by three interested parties, all of them in business, rather than residential development.
The existing Water Treatment Plant on the site is scheduled for closure once the new plant in the city is operational.
Putz said the new plant has recently begin commissioning, so the number two plant could be closed late this year, or early in 2011.
