The City of Yorkton has accepted a one of three submissions to undertake its 2010 Transportation Master Plan Study.
The City had requested submissions from six firms, but only three made proposals by the deadline.
The recommendation from Administration was to accept the offer of Stantec Consulting Services Ltd., at a cost of $123,904 before taxes. The Stantec cost was the middle of the three proposals, but was recommended because the firm "is known to provide effective transportation solutions. They have experience in Alberta as well as in Saskatchewan, most notably with the City of Saskatoon and the City of Weyburn. Administration contacted representative of these communities and found no outstanding issues with respect to their work," detailed material circulated to Council at its regular meeting Monday.
Council unanimously supported the recommendation.
The 2010 Transportation Master Plan study "is to form part of the City's official plans for the planning, improving and managing the operations of, among other system components, it's roadway system; of specific transportation corridors forecast to require improvements due to growth of operational considerations," explained the circulated material.
The provincial Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure will cover up to 75 per cent of the costs of the Transportation Master Plan.
Yorkton Council had approved $150,000 for the project in its 2010 budget.
