St. John Ambulance has been active in Saskatchewan since 1911 when volunteers first formed local branches in the major cities. 100 years later, St. John has become an integral part of the first aid and safety fields by providing services through eight training centres, eleven community service groups, and 482 first aid instructors located in 146 Saskatchewan communities. As well, the expanding group of Therapy Dog teams can be found visiting hospitals, senior's homes and schools through out the province.
"2011 is a special year for us in Saskatchewan," says Darrell McFadyen, President of St. John Sask Council. "We are looking forward to celebrating 100 years of first aid training and safety at work, home and play and to recognizing all of our volunteers who work hard to provide services to Saskatchewan communities."
Events will be occurring throughout the year to mark the anniversary. Each training centre will be hosting celebrations and activities to which the public will be invited to participate.
St. John Ambulance is a charitable non-profit agency dedicated to improving the health and safety of Canadians. As part of its mandate, St. John has become the industry leader for first aid instruction in Canada.
