Busy time for travel

Well the weather is finally letting the farmers do some haying in the Calder area. Donny Kahut of Calgary was home for a few days visiting with family and friends.

Well the weather is finally letting the farmers do some haying in the Calder area.

Donny Kahut of Calgary was home for a few days visiting with family and friends.

Mike Klausse of Calgary along with his girlfriend, Sunny, were visiting with friends in Calder.

Marie and Steve Dawe and Clayton Campbell went to Calgary and Edmonton for a while this summer.

They visited the Calgary Zoo, Calaway Park and the West Edmonton Mall and visited with family.

Jean Rapchalk is home from Saskatoon, where she was a patient for a few weeks. We hope you are feeling better.

April Rohatensky and some friends spent a week in Montreal before she attended the Calanchie Reunion.

Virginia Antony, Jeff, Crystal Devins and family motored to Brandon to visit with family.

Sympathy goes out to Mildred Danylko and families on the recent passing of her husband Rodney Danylko.

On behalf of the Calder Rec Board, we would like to thank everyone for helping out at the sports ground. Thank you for helping with scraping, painting, fixing the benches and cutting the grass at the grounds.

The Calder Seniors held their Whist Drive and the winners are as follows: 1st - Arthur Martenuk, 2nd - Arnold Balabuk, 3rd - Anna Fyck and low - Lil Wozney. Pot of Gold winner was Virginia Wandy.

Trevor, Nicole and Layla Rapchalk travelled to Ontario to visit with family and friends.

Mark your calendars for the Calder Annual Fall Supper which will be held on Sept., 2010 at the Calder Community Hall. Watch the posters for times.

The Calder library is looking for children to attend the Play School Program that starts in October 2010 till April 2011. If you have a child that is three or four years old and would like them to interact with other children before they start school, give Karen a call at 742-2167 for more information.

On August 13, 14 & 15, 2010 the Wasil E. Calanchie family held a reunion in Calder. It is ninety years since Wasil E. and Mary Calanchie started to farm in the Calder area. This was a very happy occasion despite the inclement weather. There were siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles from various parts of the country. They visited the many graves of relatives and St. Trieme Romanian Orthodox Church which was originally built on Calanchie land. A delicious banquet was served by the Calder Rec Board at the Community Hall.

April Rohatensky has returned to Calgary after spending most of the summer in Calder with her mother, Marie Rohatensky.
