Access launches reading program

Access Communications Co-operative has launched a unique new story-telling series to encourage literacy and promote the creations of Saskatchewan children's authors.

Access Communications Co-operative has launched a unique new story-telling series to encourage literacy and promote the creations of Saskatchewan children's authors. In support of Family Literacy Day, which took place this year on Thursday, January 27, preschoolers and early readers, plus their families, in selected Access7 communities are now able to watch "The Bookworm's Corner", a joint project of the Saskatchewan Writers' Guild and Access7.

Each 30-minute program will feature one or two picture books by Saskatchewan authors, read either by their creators or by guest readers such as Lt. Gov. Dr. Gordon Barnhart and Dr. Shauneen Pete, Interim Director of the First Nations University of Canada.

"Bookworm's Corner" is hosted by children's author and SWG member Jean Freeman, and can be seen at 3:30 p.m. on Access7 each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Go to access7.ca for program listings in your community or contact Access Communications directly.
