The Yorkton branch of the Ukrainian Women's Association held a 50th anniversary celebration on June13th, recognizing members and their organization's official journal, Promin.
"Our goal is to educate and always give help to youth of our Ukrainian people and practice traditions and culture of the Ukrainian nation," said Pauline Semenuik, who has been a member of the Olena Pchilka branch in Yorkton since 1963.
The Ukrainian Women's Association is a Canada-wide organization. They uphold the Ukrainian Orthodox church and support the accomplishments and education of Ukrainian youth living in Canada.
The first issue of Promin was published in January 1960. The journal has functioned as a communication tool to Ukrainians across Canada.
"It contains the subjects concerning the Ukrainian nation as well as worldwide happenings that affect us as Ukrainians," said Semenuik. Profiles of youth and branch reports also fill the pages of Promin.
Semenuik explained the importance of their journal, as it is "educational, informational, and also gives us an opportunity Canada wide to know what each branch is doing and how they celebrate events."
The Yorkton branch welcomed guest speakers at their celebration-Provincial President of UWAC, Mrs. Aileen Pilipow, and the Provincial Convener of Promin, Mrs. Sonia Korpus."We should be proud of the kind of caliber we have [with Promin]," said Semenuik. "The printing and layout is second to none compared to other magazines in our Ukrainian community."
