KAMSACK — Last week was National Addictions Awareness Week and various day-long events from Nov. 21 to 23 were hosted at the OCC hall.
With the help of the Saskatchewan Health Authority, SIGN Positive Impact, Suncrest College, Saulteaux Healing and Wellness Centre Inc., Cote First Nation, Keeseekoose First Nation, and the Key First Nation, these events were organized to help stop the stigma against addiction.
On Nov. 21, Cote First Nation had various speakers and presenters attend including: Sheryl Whitehawk, Wilfred Whitehawk, Darwin Cote, Shane Bird, Teddy Cote, Vincent Whitehawk, Derrick Guiboche, and Vanessa Cadotte. After supper, attendees enjoyed a coffee house with music from the Moonlight Ramblers, sponsored by Saulteaux Healing and Wellness Centre Inc.
Keeseekoose First Nation had various speakers and presenters attend on Nov. 22, including: Leon Keshane, Theresa Fiddler, and guest speaker Richard Hoard. After supper, Keeseekoose enjoyed a mini round dance with music played by Thunder Strongquill.
On Nov. 23, The Key First Nation brought speakers and presenters from around the area, including: Cecilia Keinick with a Suncrest College self-care workshop, Darcilyn Johnson with a self-care and healthy techniques workshop, and Peter Nippi. Various door prizes were given out, and The Key First Nation closed with a prayer.
