Knitted mittens donated to Victoria School

KAMSACK — Mary Welykholowa, a resident of the Eaglestone Lodge with her husband John Welykholowa, has been knitting since she was 15 years old, some 82 years ago.

Recently Mary knitted around 15 pairs of mittens and donated them to Victoria School.

“I’ve been doing this since I moved into Eaglestone Lodge last year. I already had lots of yarn at that time, then Karen [Bodnaryk] asked if I wanted to do it, so I did and then they brought me even more yarn! I only knit with one eye and my hands are getting older, but I just love doing it. I love doing it and seeing the kids. It also gives me something to do because the days are long if you don’t have something to do.”

Welykholowa has said she’s “knitted everything there is to knit.” and has no plans to stop anytime soon until she absolutely can’t anymore. Welykholowa, during an interview with the Kamsack Times, said she also wishes everyone a Merry Christmas.
