Kamsack U13 provincial team a regional effort

Kamsack Minor Hockey is hosting a U13 team to compete at the provincial level, made up of players from communities across the region.

Kamsack Minor Hockey is hosting a U13 provincial team with players from Kamsack, Cote First Nation, Keeseekoose First Nation, Canora, Norquay, Sturgis, Preeceville, and Stenen. KAMSACK - Made up of players across the region, Kamsack Minor Hockey is hosting a U13 team to compete at the provincial level.

“It has been seven years since Kamsack Minor Hockey has sponsored a provincial team,” said Shanneen Tataryn, the team’s manager, “and this year, the potential of our communities combing and creating a strong competitive team made fielding a provincial team an easy choice.”

The Kamsack Flyers U13 Provincial team consists of players from the communities of Canora, Cote First Nation, Kamsack, Keeseekoose First Nation, Norquay, Sturgis, Preeceville and Stenen.

The team has been practicing since December and have played three exhibition games: two against the U13 Yorkton Terriers and one against the U13 Swan Valley Stampeders.

Tataryn said Kamsack Minor Hockey is grateful for the support it has received from individual families and the community.

 “It is because of this support that our players can travel together as a team, play at a higher competitive level and gain valuable experiences,” she said.

“Keeseekoose First Nation kindly donated their charter bus for our first away exhibition game to Swan River in early January.”

The first home game will be held Feb. 9 at Kamsack’s Broda Sportsplex.

“We feel very confident with our team’s abilities going into this provincial bracket,” Tataryn said. “These kids have been playing against each other in our league for years, so to see them come together as a team so skillfully is a great testament to the coaching and dedication to hockey in our communities.”
