KAMSACK — Moving to a small town from bigger cities can be a headache for newcomers to town.
Priyal Patel started his own U-Haul dealership business after his long move from Ontario to Kamsack with no access to the service two years ago.
“There was one dropped off yesterday. And there is one truck that is supposed to come back tomorrow,” Patel said, adding that the business has gained some traction since its first launch in September 2023, aiming to make it easier for people who moved, lived and stayed in town.
Instead of wasting time on the road travelling between bigger towns like Yorkton and Canora, Kamsack residents can now rent U-Hauls to help them travel or run daily errands.
“U-Haul partners with hundreds of local businesses monthly. When customers rent from a U-Haul dealer, they are directly supporting an independent small business in their community,” says a spokesperson with U-Haul Canada in an email.
The U-Haul isn’t the only new service at the Kamsack Petro-Canada. The service station has added Kamsack Pizza and Grill as another fast food restaurant offering.
“Slowly we’ll just try to keep adding more services that this town may need, so that people can benefit from that, especially in summertime when there's a lot of people travelling,” Patel said.
Located at 601 Queen Elizabeth Blvd., the service includes U-Haul trucks, trailers, towing equipment, moving supplies rental and in-store pickup for boxes and operates on a do-it-yourself basis. Walk-ins are also available for the public 24/7.
