COTE FIRST NATION — Cote First Nation celebrated the 150th anniversary of their treaty signing with a vibrant rodeo and horse racing event on July 20 and 21, 2024. The community came together to honour their heritage with a series of exciting activities that showcased their rich cultural traditions.
The event featured a variety of horse races, including the Memorial Race Open 6 Furlongs, John Friday Memorial, and the George & Peter Tourangeau Memorial. Additionally, the Indian Pony Race and Indian Relay Races brought thrilling competition and spirited displays of horsemanship to the festivities.
Presented by Bad Lands Rodeo, the event also included traditional rodeo events such as Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc, and Bull Riding. Young participants had their moments in the spotlight with Sheep Riding for children aged seven and under, and Wild Pony Races for those aged 10 and under.
