KAMSACK — A call has gone out to all Kamsack residents wishing to help a 19-year-old man, who was injured at the beginning of June, to attend a benefit on Sunday.

Organized by friends of Ethen Krawetz, the benefit will be held July 17 at the OCC Hall, said Shaun Lawless.

Krawetz suffered a catastrophic spinal cord injury on June 4, leaving all four limbs paralyzed and with no ability to move from the shoulders down, said the GoFundMe page set up by his uncle Curtis Krawetz. “Donations raised will help Ethen’s parents care for him and his two younger siblings.”

He is currently recovering at Wascana Centre in Regina.

During the afternoon, the street in front of the OCC Hall will be closed to automobile traffic, allowing ball hockey games to be played, Lawless said. “We’ll encourage the kids to play first and then the adults will play.”

Lawless, who has been involved with the Togo Terriers hockey team, said a number of those players indicated they will show up to play road hockey and it is expected some high school students will play as well.

During the afternoon, the hall will be open for a beer garden, and then will close at 6 p.m. to allow for preparations to begin for a dance that will begin at 7 p.m.

Admission will be $15 per person, and as of press time, Lawless was uncertain if the dance will have a band, or a DJ.

“We’d appreciate volunteers to help with the event,” he said, adding that he is seeking donations of raffle items for a silent auction.

“We’ll be selling 50/50 tickets.

“I’m just someone who wants to help raise money for Ethen,” he said, explaining that Ethen had helped him coach hockey and had worked with his kids.

“He’s a good kid in a bad situation,” he said. “We’re hoping for a good turnout.”

Persons wishing to assist or make donations may contact Lawless.
