Old Home Week festivities have been organized to run all week prior to the Lions Western Weekend on July 14-16.

Old Home Week is a practice that originated in the New England region of the United States, similar to a holiday or festival, said organizers. In its beginning in the 19th century, it involved a municipal effort to invite former residents of a village, town, or city. It usually focused on individuals who grew up in a municipality and moved elsewhere in adulthood. They鈥檙e invited to visit the 鈥渙ld home,鈥 the parental household and hometown.

鈥淭he idea is to have events around one week each summer so former residents and guests can be as busy as they please while checking out what's new in town,鈥 said organizers.

The events start on July 11 with a hamburger barbecue at Formo Motors. On July 12 an art show and lunch, sponsored by the United Church will be presented. A sausage-and-perogies lunch at the Personal Care Home is also scheduled.

On July 13, the main event will feature the serving of clay oven-baked bread with jam and chili at the Preeceville and District Heritage Museum. The Preeceville Club 60 will be hosting a fun day with a pie-and-coffee social and horseshoe games on July 14.

The week concludes on July 15 with a Taste of Home homemade baking display with a refreshment booth at Centennial Park sponsored by the Preeceville Catholic Women鈥檚 League. The Western Weekend will start on Friday (July 14).

Phantom judges will be secretly judging the appeal of various yards and Preeceville vouchers will be awarded to winners.
