Keep your dogs hydrated and bathe them during extreme heat days.

SASKATOON — Mayfair Outdoor Pool is set to host a special dog summer event to relieve our furry friends from the heat. On Tuesday, Aug. 22, dogs will be allowed to swim and cool off free of charge for the Dog Day of Summer event.

Service and therapy dogs are welcome during a designated swim time from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. Following this session, starting at 12:00 p.m., all dogs can join in on the aquatic fun.

This year, a new addition to the event is a dedicated session exclusively for small dogs. To participate in this session, dogs must be under 40 cm (16") at the shoulder and weigh less than nine kilograms (20 pounds).

Here are the designated time slots: Small dogs (limited to 60 dogs) from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., service and therapy dogs (limited to 60 dogs) from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., and all dogs (limited to 60 dogs per time slot) starting at noon until 1 p.m., 1:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., 2:45 p.m. to 4 p.m., 4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Attendance for the event is strictly by online pre-registration at , with a limit of 60 dogs per session. Registration will open on Tuesday, July 11, and close on Sunday, Aug. 20.

All dogs must be accompanied by an adult owner, be well-socialized, and have up-to-date vaccinations and licenses in Saskatoon. If your dog's license needs to be updated, you can conveniently purchase one online before registering for the event at .

During the event, the Saskatoon SPCA will be organizing a fundraising barbecue, with all proceeds directed towards SPCA initiatives.

The Dog Day of Summer event has been planned for the day following the closure of the Mayfair Outdoor Pool for the season. Please note that no human swimming will be permitted during this event, and participation and your dogs are at your own risk.
