IMPACT program helps prepare pre-school children for Kindergarten

Pre-school children preparing to enter Kindergarten in the fall were the honoured guests at the IMPACT program at Preeceville School on June 13.

IMPACT, an acronym for Intriguing Minds Parents and Children Together, is a program designed to help pre-school children and their parents prepare for Kindergarten, was held at Preeceville School on June 13. Regional Kids First, in conjunction with the Child Action Plan and Family Resource Centre, sponsored the event.

Bonnie Lisitza, the Preeceville Kindergarten teacher, was assisting the youngsters as they moved from one station to the next.

The focus of each station was to encourage the preschool children as they tried various hands-on activities. At each station each child received something to take home to remember the experience.

As the name suggests, the puzzle station allowed the children to assemble various puzzles. The reading corner focused on reading, how to handle a book, read letters and learn by identifying letter sounds.

Other hands-on activities focused on eye-hand co-ordination; defining fi ne motor skills; learning to print; recognizing numbers and colours; and games focusing on listening, taking turns and colour and number recognition.
