60th Threshermen’s Show and Seniors’ Festival

The Yorkton Western Development Museum, the Yorkton Threshermen’s Club and the East Central Seniors’ invite you to join them for an old-fashioned celebration August 1 & 2 at the 60th Threshermen’s Show and Seniors’ Festival. Visitors to this event will be treated to a glimpse of Saskatchewan’s heritage through the operation of vintage equipment and the re-enactment of methods and techniques from the past. The Show and Festival’s popularity stems from its blend of traditional skills with the spirit and diversity of Saskatchewan people.  Western Development Museum - Yorkton, Highway 16A West, 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. daily.

Volunteers Needed! The Canadian Red Cross is seeking volunteers for the Friendly Visiting Program for Seniors.  Volunteers will be trained to provide weekly visits or phone calls to socially or geographically isolated seniors in Yorkton and surrounding area. One hour every other week is all that is required to provide social interaction with a senior  and peace of mind for family and caregivers. Hockey fans will be out in full force as the Prairie Toyota Clarkson Cup tour visits Yorkton. The tour features Canadian Women’s Hockey League stars, Olympic gold medallists and Amazing Race fan favourites Natalie Spooner and Meaghan Mikkelson. Also there for fans to see is the Clarkson Cup trophy and the tour’s highlight: a 26’x20’ mobile synthetic ice rink where kids can test their skills along with two of the best hockey players in Canada. The York Lake Morning Ladies Club 9 holes at 9:00 a.m. on Monday and Fun Golf at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday. This will continue through till mid September. Come and join us as we’d love to get to know you.

Interested in finding a new outdoor activity? Want to be involved in a low cost, fun sport? Then come out to Patrick Park Disc Golf Course every Tuesday evening from May 5 through until September. This will be an evening gathering of players of all skill levels and ages to learn about disc golf, meet other players, trade discs and most of all have fun. Interested participants can show up any time after 7 p.m. and join in for some fun clanging a few chains. Gen. Alexander Ross branch, Royal Canadian Legion, is alive and well. Come out and meet our 2015 executive. They are making plans to revitalize our branch, but they need your help. Meetings on last Wednesday of the month. Gunners lounge open weekdays and Saturdays at 3 p.m. New members and guests of members welcome in the lounge. Darts Monday 7 p.m., Cribbage Saturdays at 1 p.m. Also pool and shuffleboard available. Beef on a bun on Fridays at 5 p.m. Meat draws Fridays and Saturdays at 5 p.m.
