Canora Composite School held its annual awards presentation on June 8. Classes were called to the auditorium, where Principal Kim Eiteneier presented the awards and the photos were taken.
The SRC purchased the backdrop, designed by Dustin Nielsen, teacher, which will continue to be used for future events such as awards nights and school dances. "The photos of the students and their awards were posted on the CCS social media sites and the big TV in our school main entrance," according to information provided by the school.
Grade 5 awards
Tessa Prychak received an academic award and the peewee NASP award (National Archery in the Schools Program).
Other winners of academic awards were: Colby Fast, Samuel Collingridge and Lilith Shewchuk.
Kaylem Babchishin was the winner of the most improved academic award.
The peewee cross country award went to Kasen Heshka.
Grade 6 awards
William Sliva received an academic award and the peewee badminton award.
Other academic awards were earned by: Olivia Tratch, Jacob Rewakowsky and Simon Craig.
Stevie Effa earned the most improved academic award.
Peewee volleyball award winners were Cassidy Wolkowski and Walker Wolkowski.
Kristen Snoeij took home the peewee badminton award.
Parker Kraynick and Maddy Dutchak won the peewee basketball awards, and Dutchak was also presented the peewee track award.
Grade 7 awards
The winners of academic awards were: Jacob Lowes, Natalie Kosar, Luca Propp and Silver Nordin.
Xavier Brock won the most improved academic award.
Natalie St. Mars was the junior girls volleyball rookie of the year.
Grade 8 awards
Jada Nordin was an academic award winner.
Andrew Owchar won an academic award and was named the junior boys basketball rookie of the year.
The junior NASP award went to Meekah Unick, who also earned an academic award.
Ira Mykytyshyn won the junior boys spirit award and an academic award.
The most improved academic award was earned by Mataya Ball.
Miah Ruf was the winner of the junior girls basketball spirit award. Andrew Sliva won the junior cross country award, and Falyn Ostafie was named the junior girls basketball MVP.
Grade 9 awards
Academic awards were earned by: Aurora Mickelson, Delilah Wilson, Connor Kraynick and Ty Sleeva, who also won the awards for senior golf and junior badminton.
Callie Berehula took home the most improved academic award.
Sofia Tratch was the winner of the junior girls volleyball spirit award and the junior girls basketball rookie of the year award.
Jessee Kopelchuk was the junior girls volleyball MVP, while Briel Beblow was named the junior boys volleyball MVP.
Noah Prychak as the winner of the junior boys basketball spirit award, and Owen Friesen was the junior boys volleyball rookie of the year.
Matthew Makowsky won the awards for junior boys basketball MVP and junior track.
Grade 10 awards
Michael Owchar, Callie Sznerch and Jack Craig won the first, second, and third-place academic awards respectively, and each earned a merit certificate.
Brandon Harder, Lucas Latham, Shayna Leson, Peter Michl, Joshua Rock, Porter Wolkowski, Nate Wolos and Bailee Zuravloff were merit certificate winners.
Rylan Bletsky earned a merit certificate and won the senior boys basketball rookie of the year award.
Bronson Heshka won a merit certificate and the most improved academic award.
Hunter Lamb took home a merit certificate and the senior cross country award.
Jordan Harper was named the senior girls basketball rookie of the year.
Grade 11 awards
Zoe Thomas, Kailey Sleeva and Robin Skurat won the first, second, and third place academic awards respectively, along with merit certificates. Sleeva also received the senior girls basketball spirit award.
Merit certificates were awarded to: Brooklyn Reine, Daylia Lukey, Jaxson Bisschop, Joey Palagian, Kenyon Figuereo Savinon, Meadow Ostafie, Methyl Trask and Toby Olynyk.
Cole Fountain earned the most improved academics award.
Jackson Krotenko and Tomas Hauber each won merit certificates. Krotenko added the senior boys volleyball rookie of the year award, while Hauber was the senior badminton award winner.
Hayden Strelioff won the senior NASP award, and Logan Lewchuk took home the senior badminton award.
Grade 12 awards
Breanne Woloshyn, Drea Beblow and Abigail Wilson earned the first, second, and third place academic awards respectively, along with merit certificates. Beblow also won the senior girls volleyball most valuable player award.
Brody Harrison, Carter Unick, Cassidy Zuravloff, Clay Sleeva, Codee Kopelchuk, Jamie Katryniuk and Mya Wolos were winners of merit certificates.
In addition to a merit certificate, Dawson Zuravloff also won the senior boys basketball spirit award and the senior track and field award.
Hudson Bailey won a merit certificate, and MVP awards in senior boys volleyball and senior boys basketball.
Elley Tomcala took home a merit certificate and was named the senior girls basketball MVP.
Isabella Mykytyshyn won a merit certificate and was named the senior girls volleyball rookie of the year
Kaylie Donovan won a merit certificate and the most improved academics award.
Lane Zuravloff captured a merit certificate and the senior curling award.
Lexie Biletski earned a merit certificate and won the senior girls volleyball spirit award, while the senior boys volleyball spirit award went to Brendon Landstad.

Athletes of the year
Elley Tomcala and Dawson Zuravloff were the senior athletes of the year. The awards for junior athletes of the year went to Matthew Makowsky and Sofia Tratch.
